1. The plan and the measurements
Everything starts from an accurate plan with the dimensions of every room, and the positions of windows, doors, air conditioning and sockets. A beautiful piece in the wrong place loses half its value.
2. Priorities and budget
Rank the rooms by importance: the guest salon, the majlis, the dining room and the master bedroom first. Split the budget in that order and keep a margin for changes.
3. One consistent style
Choose an overall style for the house, classic, modern or a considered mix, and a palette of colours and materials that repeats between rooms. Consistency across rooms creates luxury more than any single piece.
4. Samples and approval
Before production, approve with samples: the wood, colour, fabric and marble. Review the drawings and final dimensions of every piece, and ask for a written price and lead time.
5. Production, delivery and installation
Time the delivery to the end of the finishing and painting works so the pieces are not damaged. Installation by the maker's own team ensures the pieces are fitted as designed.
Common mistakes
- Buying before the plan and measurements are final.
- Mixing many styles with nothing linking them.
- Relying on photos without seeing samples.
- Delivering furniture before the painting is finished.
