Measure the room before you choose
A classic bedroom set is made of large pieces by nature: a high-backed bed, a wardrobe, a dressing table and bedside tables on both sides. Draw the room to scale, mark the door, window and air conditioning, and keep a comfortable walkway of at least 60 to 70 cm around the bed. A smaller set in a comfortable room looks better than a full set that crowds the space.
The bed and its headboard
Choose the mattress size first and build the bed around it, not the other way round. The headboard is the first thing anyone sees, so this is where carving and upholstery deserve the most attention. Check the headboard height against the ceiling height and the position of the windows.
The wardrobe
The wardrobe is the piece used most every day. Agree its interior layout to suit you: shelves, hanging space and drawers. Make sure its height and width pass through the room door and the stairs, or that it is made in sections and assembled on site.
Finish and colour
Calm colours and light gilding are more restful in a bedroom than bright gold on every piece. Approve the wood colour, gilding and fabric with samples seen under your own room lighting, because a photo does not show colour accurately.
